Operating While Intoxicated ∙ Serious Consequences

Over the years, Wisconsin’s drunk driving laws have become increasingly severe. Fourth offense OWI (often called DUI or DWI) is a felony, and aggravating factors like the presence of minors in the car could result in the installation of the ignition interlocking device. Drunk drivers could lose their CDL licenses.

I understand the damage that an OWI conviction could have on you, and I will do everything possible to fight these charges.

Traffic Offenses

Do not underestimate the importance of traffic tickets. Even simple speeding tickets can add up fast, resulting in the loss of license, serious fines and other penalties.

I represent clients who are facing traffic offense charges that include speeding tickets, failure to stop at intersections, moving violations, operating after revocation (OAR) charges and other traffic offense charges. I also have extensive experience representing commercial drivers in a range of charges that include overloaded axles, improper balance and a range of other charges. I can help you defend your CDL and defend your career.

Wisconsin’s Point System

Demerit points are assessed to drivers when convicted of a moving violation, beginning on the date of the violation.

The courts send the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Division of Motor Vehicles records of all convictions for moving traffic violations.

Persons who hold a probationary license are assessed double points for the second and all subsequent points.

When 12 or more demerit points are accumulated in one year, a suspension of the driving privilege is required, for a minimum of two months.

Convictions remain on the driver records for five years from the date of conviction. However, alcohol-related and some commercial violations remain on the record for 10 years to life.

Reducing Points

The point total may be reduced by three points for attending an approved traffic safety course.

Only one reduction is allowed in a three-year period for points assessed to the A, B, C, D classification.

One reduction of three points is also allowed in a three-year period for points assessed for class M (Motorcycle) violations.
